Unlike other student travel companies, Kairos Tours provides complete financial transparency. Clients receive a detailed line item breakdown of expenses, including all available receipts. We account for every dollar spent. Kairos Tours never marks up an expense or charges a ‘percentage of spend’ fee – keeping our interests aligned.

The beauty of any school trip is the opportunity for the student to build self-confidence, problem solve, and learn how to navigate in a new environment. The adults are present to keep students safe, but otherwise should ‘lead from behind’. We strongly encourage student leadership throughout the trip.
Efficient Group Travel
Group travel can be a difficult and frustrating experience as the group is only as fast as the slowest participant. Instead, we break into smaller groups of roughly 4-5 students and 2-3 adults. This small group travel style moves more efficiently (and happily!), allowing students to focus on their unique interests.
Trip Curation
All of our trips are 100% customizable. We begin by meeting with faculty to understand the goals and vision for the trip, then craft a detailed itinerary with tailored options for review and revisions. This collaborative approach ensures total alignment with the school’s objectives, goals, and vision for the trip.
Things We Avoid
Travel companies that keep entire groups together and follow a yellow umbrella around cities (‘amoeba style’) are missing opportunities and making unfortunate use of their client’s valuable time. We also avoid using a coach as transportation, hotels outside of the city center, and shopping mall food courts.

Yes, our tours are 100% customizable! We work with you to curate the perfect itinerary to match your interests, group size, and travel preferences.
Each trip can include: round-trip airfare, comfortable accommodations, ground transportation (private coaches, trains, etc.), guided tours and entrance fees, a tour director, full pre-departure support and planning. We also handle all logistics so group leaders can focus on the experience!

Trip prices vary based on destination, group size, season, and itinerary length. We aim to keep our tours accessible without compromising quality, and we offer 100% accounting transparency. No hidden fees or markups!
A Tour Director is not automatically included in the trip package, but you have the option to add one for an additional fee. A Tour Director is a dedicated travel expert who manages all on-the-ground logistics—from coordinating transportation to confirming restaurant reservations.
We highly recommend hiring a Tour Director, especially if this is your group’s first time visiting the destination. Their expertise ensures a smooth, stress-free experience, allowing you to focus on enjoying the trip.
Kairos Tours does not offer, or require, travel insurance, but there are several 3rd party companies that do. We are happy to provide you with some options.
Yes! We believe that some of the most memorable travel moments come from discovering a place on your own. We build in structured free time throughout the trip so that students can explore, shop, or relax in small chaperone groups. This independence helps build confidence and connection to the destination while keeping everyone safe and accounted for.
We’ll send a comprehensive packing guide prior to departure. It includes clothing recommendations, travel essentials, and tips for different climates.
We partner with trusted, student-friendly hotels in safe, central locations. Rooming is typically in doubles or triples for students, with private rooms available for adult chaperones.

A Note From OurFounder
My name is David Mebane and I am a lifelong traveler that experienced my first international trip as a 2nd grader, and I haven’t stopped since. I founded Fat Tire Tours in Paris, France in 1999 and love showing people around the City of Light. That passion has grown to include other incredible destinations around the globe, and this is the genesis for Kairos Tours. Even after 25 years I still love leading others in their pursuit of creating experiences and memories that last a lifetime.
I live in Austin, Texas with my wife Kelly, and our son Weston and daughter Caroline. However, we spend as much time as we can elsewhere since there is nothing better than an adventure with family and friends!
